This season tackled just about every potential story line available when it comes to personnel at the position. The big bright spot, is that we had the rise of a young and talented second round pick in Taylor Moton that looks like a long term solution at right tackle with some ability to play the left. To a lesser degree, we did an extremely rare thing in finding an in-season replacement that wasn’t a complete failure in Chris Clark, who admirably filled in as the position hit emergency mode. But the dark places included the full gamut:The continued disappointment of over-priced and under-performing acquisition Matt Kalil, who has worn out his welcome and his chances to play the “healthiest he’s ever been” fallacy.The crippling injury to Daryl Williams in a contract year Russell Color Rush Shepard Jersey , hurting his stock ahead of free agency and our options for last year.The ongoing lack of depth in the pipeline at a position that has hampered us most of Cam Newton’s career.As I said in the final Hog Molly Report of this season:Left tackle will once again be a priority in the 2019 NFL Draft. The Panthers will have to get lucky and hope one of decent quality falls to them in the middle of the first round, or we are just going to be bouncing this same ball again a year from now. If we don’t our options are as follows:Pursue one of the not great and overpriced options in the free agent market. (highly unlikely)Re-sign Chris Clark (much more likely)Ask Taylor Moton to play left tackle again and attempt to re-sign Daryl Williams (unlikely)Pray that a potential mid round pick makes an incredible leap in his first season.None of those options are really something we want, so let’s hope that talent makes its way to us in the NFL Draft.
