ARLINGTON, Texas -- The Gomes family and the Cleveland Indians enjoyed a big afternoon. Yan Gomes hit a three-run homer that sent Cleveland over the Texas Rangers 8-3 Saturday. The Indians also picked his brother, Juan, in the Major League Baseball draft. In his first two at-bats against Texas, Gomes had left five runners on base. But when he came up with two on and one out in the sixth inning, he hit a pitch from Nick Tepesch (2-2) over the centre-field wall. "I figured I had to drive the ball somewhere," Gomes said. "I took a pretty good swing at it. It was a curveball. All the other ones were fastballs. Maybe that was the difference." Also, the Indians took catcher Juan Gomes in the 37th round from Odesa College in Texas. Carlos Santanas two-run homer capped a four-run seventh that put the game away for Cleveland. Santana, two days off the disabled list after recovering from concussion symptoms, batted eighth and went 2 for 2 with two walks. Gomes was the ninth batter. "One through nine, we know we have a solid offence," right fielder David Murphy said. "We can put a bunch of runs on the board." Murphy, who previously played for Texas, batted sixth and had three hits and an RBI. Josh Tomlin (4-2), a native of Tyler, Texas, left after giving up a leadoff single to Adrian Beltre in the ninth. That tied his longest major league outing since he pitched his lone complete game Sept. 24, 2010. "Id like to get the complete game, dont get me wrong," Tomlin said. "Im more happy we got the win. Beltres a real good hitter. He got a good swing on that one." Beltre also doubled to drive in a run and scored himself in the two-run sixth. "(Tomlin) limited the damage," Cleveland manager Terry Francona said. Alex Rios got three hits for Texas. Texas took a 1-0 in the third on a sacrifice fly by Elvis Andrus. Cleveland tied it in in the fourth after singles by Jason Kipnis and Lonnie Chisenhall put runners at first and third with no outs. With Chisenhall running on the pitch, Murphy lifted a fly ball to short centre. Chisenhall was already around second base when centre fielder Leonys Martin caught the ball and made an easy throw to first base. No one was covering the base, however, as Kipnis scored on the sacrifice fly and Chisenhall was awarded third when the throw rolled into the Texas dugout. Chisenhalls baserunning adventures continued when catcher Robinson Chirinos picked him off third base. A single and a walk put two runners back on the bases, but Gomes grounded out. His next time up, Gomes homered for a 4-1 lead. The Rangers scored twice in the sixth to pull within 4-3. Beltre hit an RBI double and came home on a wild pitch by Tomlin. NOTES: Santana, Clevelands cleanup hitter most of this season, batted eighth for the second consecutive game. "We dont want Carlos to be our eighth hitter all year, but when youre hitting fourth and hitting .150 its pretty glaring," Francona said. ... Andrus sixth-inning single extended his hitting streak against the Indians to 39 games, every one he has played against them. ... Indians 1B Nick Swisher (hyperextended left knee) ran the bases before the game. Francona said Swisher would begin an injury-rehab assignment Tuesday for Double-A Akron, and could return from the disabled list Thursday at Boston. ... Tomlin said he had 15-20 family and friends in the stands. Cheap Patriots Jerseys . After eleven games, there have been many standout performances. Here is my best XI of the season so far: GK - David De Gea (Manchester United) - It is no coincidence that the standard of goalkeeping in the Premier League has risen at the same time the standard of defending has dropped. Many goalkeepers are having outstanding seasons for their clubs, playing behind some vulnerable back fours, including Joe Hart and Hugo Lloris who have had excellent seasons so far, but no one has been better than De Gea. The Spaniard has made some of the best saves of the season some of which came in the Manchester derby, but no save has been better than the one he made against Bryan Oviedo in injury time against Everton at Old Trafford. RB - Nathaniel Clyne (Southampton) - The 23-year-old Englishman has kicked into another gear this season after progressing nicely last year under Mauricio Pocchetino. Guided by new boss Ronaldo Koeman he is still encouraged to get forward, often positioning himself on the halfway line when his centre-back partners ignite an attack, and his excellent form has seen him rewarded with a call up to the England squad. Clyne is not the best right back in the league, Seamus Coleman and Branislav Ivanovic would have strong arguments for that honour, but on form he has been the standout right back so far this season. The Manchester Evening News recently reported that Manchester United should reunite Luke Shaw with his former full back partner. Clyne has got a long way to go to play for a team like United regularly but at Southampton he is excelling at a steady pace. CB - Gary Cahill (Chelsea) - In a league full of inconsistent performers at the centre-back position, Cahill excels and never has a bad game. Comfortable in possession, quick and strong, the English defender is outstanding in the air and becomes a menace in both penalty areas. Considering the era of average English teams on a national basis it is every credit to Cahill that one of the worlds finest club teams currently has a member of Englands defence at the heart of it and one that no one ever says needs replacing. CB - Winston Reid (West Ham) - No position in the league has seen more money wasted on it in the past couple of years than centre back. No longer can a team part with over 10 million pounds on a defender and call him a sure thing. Just ask Liverpool who has spent 37 million on two centre backs in the last 15 months and neither have convinced yet. Reid, a free agent next summer, however continues to put in consistent performances for a Hammers side that have had a tremendous start to the season and it is little wonder that the Kiwi is stalling on a new contract with many big clubs looking at him next summer as a potential free agent signing. LB - Cesar Azpilicueta (Chelsea) - Pundit Gary Neville has a very loud voice these days. This is not a bad thing as the former Man Utd defender is outstanding in his role for Sky Sports and is so well respected that when he says something many automatically agree. Neville recently said the Spanish full back was the best defender in the Premier League. Based on his form this season it is hard to disagree as the former Marseille man has continued to impress in a left back slot despite being more familiar at right back. Jose Mourinho made the move to put the 25-year-old at left back, instead of Ashley Cole, at this time last year and it speaks to his development, and, to a degree, the weakness of the position throughout the game, that he can be considered one of the worlds finest left backs at the moment. M - Nemanja Matic (Chelsea) - TThe outstanding midfielder of the Premier League so far.dddddddddddd This time last season Chelsea were playing a similar system to what they play now but with Frank Lampard and Ramires as the two central midfielders. The duo was effective against some teams but they lacked many significant attributes needed in a top midfield. Matic brings tremendous power and strength along with an outstanding footballing IQ. He reads the game brilliantly and without him the rest of the stars who get much more publicity at the club (including his manager) would not be as successful. M - Cesc Fabregas (Chelsea) - The summer signing from Barcelona brings the guile, creativity and finishing ability that the midfield lacked last season. He has formed a phenomenal partnership with Matic that will be sensational for Mourinho for most domestic matches. Occasionally the pair could struggle in tandem against top teams away in the league, and in the Champions League, and may need another, deeper midfielder than the Spaniard in more competitive matches, but, overall, the pair can more than excel against weaker teams domestically. His assist for Andre Schurrles goal against Burnley on the opening weekend remains the best pass of the season and his goal at Crystal Palace showed Chelsea now have a central midfielder on the same creative wavelength as…. M - Eden Hazard (Chelsea) - It was a difficult summer for Hazard at the World Cup for Belgium. The world watched expecting the star to reach the next level and dominate on the games biggest stage but that didnt happen. However, since returning to Chelsea he has continued his development and no longer seems to wait for the game to come to him. Instead he often grabs hold of periods of the game and brings fear into opposing defenders. Hazard is a breathtaking dribbler and now has far better players around him than last season, which will only speed up his inevitable progression into a world-class talent. F - Sergio Aguero (Man City) - No matter what side you support it is great to see Aguero fit and in form again. When he plays consistently at this level it is easy to make a case for him to be the third best player in the game. Aguero scores goals with both feet and his head, inside the box and out, on the break or on instinct. Citys title credentials still remain because of the individual brilliance the Argentine forward brings each week. Having started just 37 games combined the last two Premier League seasons, both he and his team will be hoping he starts over 30 this season. F - Alexis Sanchez (Arsenal) - Where would Arsenal be without the Chilean? Citys reliance on Aguero to make them good instead of average has been well documented but Sanchez has made Arsenal average instead of poor. Like Aguero, he scores goals in different ways, pulling off at the back post like he did against Manchester City, scoring one-on-ones, like against Sunderland, and scoring goals with his head or drifting in from the wing, like he did against Burnley. A true, genuine difference maker that Arsenal are lucky to have. F - Diego Costa (Chelsea) - No current player has made it look easier to score goals in this league than the former Atletico Madrid man. Like Aguero and Sanchez he is a genuine world-class star because of his versatility in front of goals. He can be a poacher but he reads plays brilliantly, finding space and anticipating where the ball will be so he can finish in style. Completes the revamp of a much-needed spine through the middle for a much-improved Chelsea team. Subs - Hugo Lloris (Tottenham), John Terry (Chelsea), Leighton Baines (Everton), Morgan Schneiderlin (Southampton), Angel Di Maria (Man Utd), Dusan Tadic, Graziano Pelle (both Southampton).
