Guidelines 1 Clean the drums, within and out, with a mild bleach-and-water option. Enable to air-dry. Paint the exterior of one drum with flat dark paint.
Choose on a south-facing site for your water heater. Make mark of a spot 5 ft. by 5 ft. Dig a trench 2 ft. deep.
Build the frame for your water heater. Start by placing a layer of concrete obstructs in the trench. Include the obstructs with soil. Pack the soil firmly close to them. Include a second row of obstructs on top of the initial. Include a 3rd row of concrete obstructs, but this time only to three facets, the north, east, and west, leave the south alone. The third row is the beginning of the frame incline. Begin the 3rd row of obstructs on the west facet. Locate the initial obstruct 50 percent a obstruct length from the end of the third row. Carry on adding obstructs, ending on the east facet, 50 percent a obstruct length from the end. Repeat this procedure with the rows of obstructs, decreasing by 50 percent a obstruct length right up until you have ended seven rows. (On row 6,leave 1 obstruct out, making a hole for the hoses to operate via.)
Produce a flat incline from the actions shaped by the east and west walls by filling them with cement. Make frames for the cement from the plywood boards. Align the boards within and outside of faces of the walls and hold them in place with pipe clamps---one at the top and one at the bottom. Using prepared-combination cement, fill in the actions and create a smooth surface spot with the inclined facets of the frame.
Set up the insulation. Reduce insulation to match the within the frame. Line the whole frame shiny facet out, setting the insulation so it slopes from the top of the frame into the middle. Make pieces with duct tape, forming a "dish" to hold the dark drum. This dish can be supported from at the rear of the insulation by making use of sand or dirt. Remember, the drum will need to be at the exact angle as the sloped facets of the frame and will need to be located much sufficient under the frame for the l glass cover to match over.
